The movie: The Other Sister portrays each of the following:
Learned Helplessness shown throughout the following movie is shown in a couple of ways. The one example that stuck out to me the most is when Carla felt hopeless about her love and the relationship her and Danny held with one another. She felt hopeless because there was no support from the one every girl needs most "boy support" from, which was her evil mother. Carla's mother did not give her a chance and never had anything positive to say about Carla and Danny's relationship. All she kept telling Carla was that she could do so much better and needed to move on.
Carla is self-determined in such ways that she is determined to be just as normal as everyone else. She is determined to go to a normal school just like everyone else in her family and friends. She doesn't want to have to go through school with a learning disability learning in different ways than her peers. She wants to be able to receive a legit high school diploma that she worked hard for on her own.
Person-Centered Planning is demonstrated throughout this movie by Carla having her mind set on marrying Danny. Later in the movie, the way she plans her OWN wedding is pretty neat considering she does this without her mother.
