Carla demonstrates self-determination by not giving up on her goal of wanting to go back to school. Her mom doesn't support the idea and feels as if Carla will not make it. Carla accomplishes her goal of wanting to go to school and proves her mother wrong. Also Carla knows she wants to spend the rest of her life with Danny and her mother is very disapproving but Carla steps up and does what is best for her.
I feel as if when Carla is helping Danny build himself back up from failing that test would be an example of learned helplessness. I think that Carla knew she had to be there for Danny so that he would be there in return for her when she needed him.
Person-centered planning was when she made the decision to life on her own and to have her wedding the way she wanted it. She realized that these things were important to her and she wanted them to be the way she wanted.
