The title, "The Other Sister" already tells you something about the family's relationships. Carla had two sisters, but she was considered "the other sister" so from the start she was secluded. In chapter 4, it discussed the importance of the family and sibling relationships. The family should be accepting but can't just ignore the disability. They should all work together to help the child with a disability not become "the other" child.
