The Other Sister Post #4, severity of disability
I believe Carla had a mild to moderate classification of her disability. She was able to live on her own and go to high school and succeed. However, Daniel was not able to succeed and Carla even said she would take care of him. He could have had a higher level of severity because of some of the skills he lacked. Carla was able to grasp most of the skills she lacked through her school and the support systems she had. It was pointed out in the movie that Daniel had little to no support at home, so that could relate to the severity of his disability. It also goes back to making clear that once diagnosed the child may not stay in the classification that they are first put in. Sometimes, with the right support and the right education anything can happen.
