At the beginning of the movie Carla's parents decide to send Carla to a school for those with special needs. I believe that this is a good experience for Carla because she is able to experience going to school and receiving the help that is needed to gain an education. When Carla comes back home she immediately wants to attend a regular high school. Although her mother does not agree with this decision Carla is certain that she is capable to gain an education at this school. When Carla mentions this to her parents they are automatically faced with the idea of inclusion and if placing Carla in a regular high school setting would be appropriate for Carla's needs.
It's surprising that Carla does so well in "the real world" when she leaves that school because it doesnt' seem like she is exposed to very much there.
