Carla could be classified as having a mild disability. Carla is fortunate to have a strong social support with her family. They treat her with respect and support her (eventually) in her choices to go to a public vocational school, living alone in her own apartment, dating, and finally, marriage. Carla seem to struggle with public transportation. A technical support that she could benefit from would be a smart phone with not only GPS but there are bus route apps that will not only help evaluate what bus and route to take, but you can also bookmark your most frequent routes and even see where your bus is on route.
It is important for Carla to have supports so she can acquire independence. Dr. Johnson said it best, "Independence can give Carla......dignity."
Interesting...at what age do students begin to "feel" or "have" . . . dignity? How do we instill or demonstrate that?
